Aug 4, 2004 By: Kevin Brown How do spinner rims workEver wonder how spinner rims work? Me too. Let me explain a little bit about spinner rims if you aren't exactly sure whet they are. Spinner rims are car wheels that have a separate piece that spins independently of the actual wheel. What happens when the car or truck stops is that the wheel stops turning but the separate spinner keeps turning. You definitely notice when a vehicle stops beside you at a light with spinner rims on it. So how do they work? Spinner rims are usually an attachment that you buy separately from your custom wheels and then mount over the wheel. The custom wheels have to be deep enough to allow the spinner rim to be mounted and still not protrude past the lip of the wheel. The spinner rims are bolted on with special lug nuts. Once in place the outer spinning portion rides on a heavy duty sealed bearing. The more expensive models use a double bearing configuration than claims the lengthen the amount of time the spinner rims continue after the wheel stops. The longer the spinner rim turns the better it is as this is the effect you are going for when you have them installed.
